As depicted on the circa. 1890 postcard, The Washington Boulder was on the path between Conway and North Conway Strip on Pine Hill. The boulder was quite an attraction and was a perfect afternoon hike. This attraction was demolished around the turn of the century. Part of this granite was used as the foundation at the Conway Public Library in 1900.

Cottons Mill in Center Conway

Submitted by: Past Member Brian Sullivan

This is a picture is of the Eastman-Sullivan House circa 1860-65. The house along with a barn was located across the street from Richard G. Packard Art Galley on the strip.

Brian had said this could be the earliest photograph of the "Strip" in N. Conway. Please let us know if you have an earlier one.

The house was raised in 1987 but the barn was saved. It now sits to the north side of MacDonald's Restaurant on Rt 16 North Conway. It's the 3 story structure. Across from Staple's.

Christie's Variety, 7-11, Chelsea's Roadhouse and now Club Moulan Rouge have occupied where the old house and barn stood.

North Conway's "Strip"
circa 1943.
This is looking north from about Burger King, at what is now Yield House. Wow! This is a great reminder of how our commercial area once looked.

Center Conway Village
, this picture was likely taken
before the turn of the 19th century.

Images from early glass plate collection entrusted to CHS.

Can you tell what Mountain this is?

N. Conway Parade looking north. Charles "Chubby" Whitakers Farm house is in center of picture.
